ArtsProfessional finds out how the sector?s managers and directors made it to where they are today!

Producer, Phoenix Dance Theatre (2002?to date)
I had always had a strong interest in contemporary dance and when the opportunity came to move to Phoenix I jumped at it. Three years later I am still here! My role as Producer covers a wide range of activities, from booking all the company?s touring activities in the UK and overseas, to overseeing the production process from the initial ideas to the opening night of the tour. My job still challenges me on an almost daily basis and with such a small team I get to be involved in all areas of the company?s work. This makes me very proud of what the company has achieved over the past three years and what we plan to do in the future, including our 25th Anniversary in 2006.

Production Co-ordinator, The Lowry, Salford (2000?2002)
I joined The Lowry in Salford Quays when it was still in the process of being built. It is certainly a job I will never forget, as being involved with the opening of a new venue with a profile like The Lowry was a fantastic experience. The venue helped to transform the whole area in which it was built, and continues to programme some of the finest companies to perform in the North, including Phoenix!

Freelance Production Manger (1998?2000)
I worked in both the theatre and conference industries, including a project with the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon, setting up their summer Fringe Festival.

Assistant Production Manager, Lyric Theatre Hammersmith (1997?1998)
After training in Stage Management at The Central School of Speech and Drama (1994?1997), this was my first professional job. I was fortunate enough to work on some great shows, including ?Shockheaded Peter?, which is the one that I have most enjoyed being involved in. I was also able to work with some inspirational people like Robert Lepage, whose skills as a theatre maker were amazing to watch.
