Young people?s theatre companies from all over the world are descending on Manchester this month, as part of a new initiative by the British Council and Contact Theatre. The Contacting The World festival has twinned six British youth theatre groups with young people?s theatre companies from Syria, Jordan, Pakistan, Malaysia, Nigeria and Bangladesh (Tarunya Theatre Company from Dhaka, pictured).

Over a period of nine months, the companies have used chat rooms, email and exchanged props and images to collaborate on projects celebrating the theme of ?difference?. The week-long festival will feature six double bills showcasing an international company together with its UK ?twin?. Contacting The World also features a series of workshops devised and delivered by the international participants, focusing on different creative techniques.
