Ambitious plans to improve facilities for customers, visiting artists and staff at Belfast?s Grand Opera House have been unveiled, together with details of a new fundraising scheme that will see a 7.5% ?Development Donation? added to the price of all tickets for the next four years. The scheme aims to raise £1m, and will form part of a £9m campaign to secure funding for the new development.

With the support of the Belfast Telegraph, a Buy a Brick campaign is already permitting supporters to purchase a glass plaque engraved with their name, which will be mounted on a glass wall, spanning all three floors of the theatre?s new foyers. All of the monies raised will go towards improved facilities at the existing building, designed by Frank Matcham and built in 1895, and extensions to the side and rear of the building (pictured), designed by architects Arts Team. The new facilities are due for completion in Autumn 2006.
