Streets ahead
The wide appeal of street arts events has been revealed in new research by the Independent Street Arts Network (ISAN), with the top thirteen large outdoor events, including Streets of Brighton (pictured), attracting a combined audience in excess of one million.
Street arts were found to be particularly popular among young family groups and 27 per cent of those interviewed said that they never attend traditional theatre-based performance. For over 60 per cent the street performance was a special trip and nearly 30 per cent had travelled for over half an hour to get there. ISAN co-ordinator Bill Gee said ?Street art spectacle events presented as part of the Millennium, the Commonwealth Games and the Queen?s Golden Jubilee celebrations, have been viewed by millions on television over recent years, and we are sure these large-scale events contribute to the growing public appetite for street arts in their local area.? w: http://www.streetartsnetwork.org.uk
