How it all began…
It all began as a voluntary six-week summer project in 1994 when Christopher Enticott and Rakhee Jasani, East-Side’s joint directors, produced a youth theatre production of Bugsy Malone with a group of children from East London. The project proved so popular that they soon had to turn down other work in order to commit themselves to developing East-Side Productions.

Pivotal moments
- Performing at the Millennium Dome in November 2000.
- The development of a young writers’ mentoring programme, ‘Write Up Your Street’, in 2001. A lot of people had dismissed the idea as unworkable – but the project is now hugely successful and popular.

The organisation today
East-Side currently works across London and the home counties delivering arts projects with young people from all cultural, social and religious backgrounds, and with children who have a wide range of educational and emotional needs. On average, 20,000 children and young people take part in cross-artform projects every year and the number is growing all the time.

A big thank you to…
- The Board of Trustees for their unwavering faith in the organisation.
- Morgan Stanley, East-Side’s first corporate funder, for continued support.
- Deutsche Bank for recognising the importance of core funding.
