How it all began

The Arts Marketing Association (AMA) sprang out of the Society of Arts Publicists, Society of Northern Arts Publicists and Society of London Arts Publicists, who decided to merge to create a new Arts Marketing Association. By the end of 1994 the first member directory showed 240 members. There are now over 1,700 members representing all art forms.

Pivotal moments

• The first conference was held in Manchester in 1994 and 180 delegates attended.
• The staff base was expanded in 1998 from one to three.
• From 1998 to 2000 the membership increased by 50% enabling AMA to provide increased benefits to members: a new website, free publications, quarterly journals and a mentoring scheme.

The organisation today

The AMA programme of events has expanded to include:
• Books, journals and reports offering up to date information focusing on new developments and best practice.
• Conferences to develop skills, debate ideas and discover practical solutions
• Mentoring and coaching to unlock potential and achieve peak performance.

A big thank you to…

All AMA members, the staff, Board members past and present, funders, sponsors and suppliers.

Celebration events being planned

The AMA is hosting a birthday conference on November 18 at Sadler’s Wells featuring sessions from some of the best speakers who have presented at AMA events down the years, including Professor Malcolm McDonald, one of the world’s most respected marketers. And there’ll be a big cake too! Full details are on the AMA website at http://www.a-m-a.co.uk
