The Hub
The Hub, Britain?s largest display centre for the applied arts, opens in a renovated five storey seed warehouse in Sleaford, Lincolnshire next month, complete with education facilities, workshops and a total of 2,000 square feet of gallery space.
The opening exhibition is entitled ?What is craft??, and a diverse range of people has been approached to select the item they think best represents British craftwork of today. Among those who have nominated works of art for the display are Nicholas Serota, Alan Titchmarsh and Nicholas Parsons. Wayne Hemingway, who chose Helen Murray?s Sculpted Rose, 2003 (pictured), said: ?Craft can mean wonderful, contemporary, individualistic, thought provoking objects of beauty, wit and intrinsic value. The quicker we can get the human race to be crafty again rather than sitting watching some brain dead soap or reality TV programme the better.?
