Working with Young Offenders – The Unit for the Arts and Offenders

The Unit supports the development of creative opportunities for people in prisons, young offender institutions, special hospitals and secure units, as well as the probation and community services and ex-offenders in the community.

Its main areas of work are:

? Undertaking evaluation and research into the needs of offenders and those who work with them.

? Providing training for staff, service specialists, artists and arts organisations through courses as well as seminars and conferences.

? Giving advice on the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects.

? Providing information in response to requests.

? Acting as a pressure group to ensure that the value of the arts in relation to offenders is understood by policy-makers and funding bodies.
