Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, whose website acts as a hub for Birmingham City Council?s museums services, has won the Gold Award for the Best Non-Profit Organisation Website at the World Media Festival in Hamburg.

The judging criteria for the competition included "quality of artistic and technical skills" and "effective communication of the message to the intended target user". Reviewed recently by leading web design magazine Cre@tive Online, the website was described as "the newest and funkiest virtual museum and art gallery to open this year." It showcases works and objects from the Museum?s collections, many of which are not on display due to pressure of space or because they are too delicate. In addition to still images of the collections, historic rooms and galleries can be explored with 360 degree pannable, zoomable 3D images and videos. See the site at http://www.bmag.org.uk
