Four new trustees have been appointed to Equity's board, the union for performers and stage managers.

Taking up their posts this month are actors IMELDA STAUNTON and ADRIAN LESTER, comedian ALAN DAVIES and singer RUBY TURNER

They join current trustees Dame JUDI DENCH and JOHNNY WORTHY.

Equity’s trustees do not make investment decisions but act as ambassadors for the union. Their terms do not have a fixed length, and they can remain in office until they resign or the Equity Council appoints a new trustee.

The new cohort takes over from Dame PENELOPE WILTON, TIMOTHY WEST and MALCOLM SINCLAIR, who have stepped down.

Equity's General Secretary, PAUL W FLEMING, said: "On behalf of the Council and Equity’s 50,000 members, I want to thank the trustees, who are respected as both some of the greatest artists of our time, as well as being committed trades unionists.

"They reflect solid experience of the professions and industries we fight for, as well as being faces who represent the industry we wish to build. I look forward to working with them, along with Equity’s President and lay officers."
