Sir John Soane’s Museum has announced that LETIZIA TREVES and ZOÉ WHITLEY will join its Board of Trustees in July following the departure of NICHOLA JOHNSON and BASIL POSTAN, who will step down having completed their respective terms.

As Global Head of Research and expertise in Old Masters at Christie’s, Treves has experience in research and curation, both with museums and auction houses.

Previously, she was a curator at the National Gallery, specialising in later Italian, Spanish, and French 17th-century paintings, a Senior Director in the Old Master Paintings department at Sotheby’s in London, and a Senior Partner at Moretti Fine Art in London.

Since 2020, Whitley has been Director of Chisenhale Gallery and has 20 years of experience producing exhibitions, public programming, and writing. Before that she was a senior curator at the Hayward Gallery, curator of the British Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale and international art at the Tate Modern.

JAMES SASSOON, Chair of the Sir John Soane’s Museum Board, said, “In 2024, the Soane Museum is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Sir John Soane’s picture gallery, home to much-loved treasures such as Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress.

"So, we are particularly delighted to welcome two great curators, Letizia and Zoé, to the Soane Museum Board when we are focused both on the interpretation of John Soane’s wonderful collection in its historic context but also as an inspiration for creativity today.”
