SIMON WARSHAW has been named as the new chair of The Old Vic, taking up post in July. He succeeds NICK CLARRY, who has led the board since 2014.

An investment banker, Warshaw co-founded corporate finance advisory firm Robey Warshaw LLP in 2014 after working at UBS for 27 years. He has been a trustee of the National Theatre since 2016.

Warshaw said he was “ incredibly honoured and excited” to join the company at a “pivotal moment” as the venue changes its artistic leadership and opens its Backstage building. He added that he was grateful to Clarry for handing over the theatre in “such a strong position.”

A statement on behalf of Old Vic executive director LAURA STEVENSON, artistic director, MATTHEW WARCHUS and artistic director designate RUPERT GOOLD said: “We are delighted to welcome Simon to The Old Vic and we look forward to working with him as we enter the next chapter of our theatre’s life.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Nick Clarry for his dedication and guidance. For over a decade, Nick has remained a loyal champion of our work on and off stage, supporting our theatre through artistic, physical and cultural changes and we are incredibly grateful to him for everything he has done.”
