Dr FRANCES RUANE has been reappointed as chair of the board of Abbey Theatre by Irleand's Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, CATHERINE MARTIN.

First appointed in May 2017, Dr Ruane’s reappointment is effective from 29 July, which will see her remain in post at Ireland's national theatre for the next two years.

Dr Ruane is also chair of the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council and until 2015, was director of the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) for nine years. She has also served as chair of multiple other institutional bodies.
 
Minister Martin said Dr Ruane has "the essential experience and knowledge necessary to continue to lead the board of the Abbey Theatre".

"She has a distinguished track record and has brought this valued experience to bear as chair to date".

Abbey Theatre’s Artistic Director CAITRÍONA MCLAUGHLIN and Executive Director MARK O’BRIEN also welcomed Ruane's reappointment: "We are delighted to have Frances Ruane as chair for the next two years".
