Dame SUE BRUCE has stepped down from chairing an independent review of Creative Scotland on health grounds.

Scottish Culture Secretary ANGUS ROBERTSON confirmed Bruce’s departure last week and announced that the process for appointing a successor is already underway.

“Whilst I recognise the delay will be frustrating, I hope you will join me in wishing Dame Sue the best as she focuses on recovery,” said Robertson in a communication to SNP MSP CLARE ADAMSON.

A local government leader for 40 years, including time as chief executive of East Dunbartonshire Council, Aberdeen City Council and Edinburgh City Council, Bruce was appointed as chair of the review in January.

Examining the funding body’s remit, functions and how it can best support the culture sector’s ambitions for renewal, the review’s recommendations are expected to be published in the summer.
