A new kind of orchestral residency designed specifically for rural areas has achieved sell-out ticket sales at small and medium size venues in East Lindsey, Lincolnshire, and is being held up by funding bodies as a model of good practice for future orchestral projects.
The London Mozart Players, appointed as the district?s Orchestra in Residence following a competitive tendering process, has been performing at community venues across the district for 12 months. Host promoters, many at venues that have never before staged professional performances, have distributed promotional materials for performances and sold tickets and programmes, which always include some challenging work, and are introduced by players from the stage. ?The Stargazer?, a work specially commissioned for the residency and influenced by the people and landscape of East Lindsey, has been introduced at each performance by composer Lynne Plowman. In addition to public performances, the orchestra has been running its award-winning education and community programme at residential care homes and day centres, hospices, schools, nurseries and after-school clubs in the area.
