The biggest single commercial art space in the UK is due to open to the public this week at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle?s Sandyford area.
32,000 sq feet of space, including 16,000 sq feet of gallery space, will be dedicated to selling original art - everything from ceramics, glass and paintings to sculpture and furniture. The Biscuit Factory, which aims to become a space that breaks down the barriers between artist and customer, will present a rolling programme of work as artists, including the 32 artists who will be resident in the venue?s studios, create new work. The building is owned by local businessman and art buyer Ramy Zack, with the refurbishment being supported by Newcastle City Council and the studios being supported by Northern Arts.
