Following Northampton Borough Council’s sale of a statue from its collection for nearly £16m, the Museums Association has barred its membership, saying it breached its Code of Ethics and was in “clear violation of public trust”. A new range of sanctions and deterrents for governing bodies considering selling collection items will be agreed later this year.
