We are looking for a dynamic and driven Marketing & Communications Manager to play a crucial role in shaping our voice. In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of impactful marketing & communication strategies and campaigns.
This role is ideal for a proactive and creative marketing and communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced, small team arts environment and is passionate about making jazz and creative music accessible to young people across the UK.
2025 sees NYJO celebrating 60 years of creating national youth jazz opportunities. In more recent years, NYJO has undergone a transformative evolution. What started as a single orchestra has grown into a dynamic charity committed to broadening access to music, fostering development and creating performance opportunities for a diverse range of young people aged 11-25.
Our young members come to us for various reasons; some to pursue music and a career in jazz and other genres, while others join to have fun, make new friends, and develop essential life skills. Whether it’s building confidence, learning teamwork, or finding their own voice, the impact of NYJO is far reaching and lasting.
The UK Jazz scene has been experiencing an exciting period of growth and innovation in recent years, and NYJO intends to continue to contribute to this vibrant ecosystem.
As we continue to expand and evolve under new leadership, we are looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager to help amplify our message and reach even more young people with the transformative power of music.
The Role:
We are looking for a dynamic and driven Marketing & Communications Manager to play a crucial role in shaping our voice. In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of impactful marketing & communication strategies and campaigns.
As the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will be pivotal in shaping and delivering NYJO’s marketing and communications strategy. This hands-on role is ideal for a creative and strategic thinker who is passionate about audience engagement, brand storytelling, and increasing our sector visibility. You will drive NYJO’s public profile, ensuring our work reaches and inspires young musicians, audiences, educators, and industry partners.
We are looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to build NYJO’s reach in innovative ways, engage new and existing audiences, and ensure the organisation’s brand & messaging reflects our mission.
Based at our Woolwich Works office for three days a week, this full-time position requires a dynamic individual who can balance high-level strategy with hands on execution.
Shaping and managing a small Marketing team, you will lead impactful campaigns tailored to multiple target groups, oversee digital and print marketing & communications and support NYJO events.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Delivery:
- Develop and implement NYJO’s marketing and communications strategy.
- Manage multi-channel marketing campaigns to increase NYJO’s profile and reach, complementing participant recruitment strategies where relevant.
- Oversee brand messaging and ensure consistency across all communications.
Audience Development & Engagement:
- Create compelling content to engage diverse target groups, including young people, emerging professionals, educators, audiences, industry partners and industry peers with a focus on increasing gender and cultural diversity among participants.
- Drive audience growth for NYJO’s live events, education programmes, fundraising activities, digital programmes and platforms.
- Develop strategies to build awareness of NYJO’s work across the arts and education sectors.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Line manage the Marketing & Communications Coordinator and Freelance Content Creator.
- Collaborate with external agencies, designers, and media contacts as required to enhance NYJO’s reach.
- Foster a creative and results driven marketing culture within the team.
Event Marketing & Support:
- Lead promotional efforts for NYJO performances, workshops, and special events.
- Manage marketing and communications in partnership with the Development team for key occasions.
Press, PR & Stakeholder Communications:
- Develop and maintain relationships with media, partners, PR agencies and influencers.
- Secure press coverage and grow NYJO’s presence within the music and arts industries.
Digital & Social Media Strategy:
- Oversee website content, email campaigns, and social media activity.
- Use analytics and audience insights to refine digital engagement strategies.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Monitor the success of marketing initiatives and adjust strategies based on insights.
- Report to senior leadership on audience growth, campaign performance, and brand impact.
Further Details & Benefits:
Salary: £32,000 – £37,000 pa (dependent on experience)
Holiday: 25 days FTE, plus bank holidays.
Location: Offer hybrid working with 3 days per week in the office / 2 days from home. NYJO is based in Woolwich Works.
Notice: One month during the 3-month probation period, two months thereafter.
