Playwright Abhishek Majumdar claims the British Council pressured the London theatre to drop a play about Tibet last year to avoid a negative reaction in China, where the theatre recently worked with 16 writers. The Royal Court said it had withdrawn the production for financial reasons but that it now plans to stage it next year. The British Council said it had no influence on the theatre’s programme.
