U.Dance, the national scheme that aims to give every young person in the country the chance to take part in a dance performance each year, has been launched after a six-month pilot scheme. The scheme, run by Youth Dance England, is now open for submissions from every region in England. Dance groups and schools from across the country took part in the launch, including FuzzyLogic (pictured), an all-male youth dance group. The scheme supports existing and new performance opportunities both in and out of school. U.Dance is in the process of building a national framework to increase the quality of dance performance, support teachers, dance practitioners and group leaders, and to create continuing professional development opportunities. U.Dance aims to have reached every school and youth dance group across England by 2011. To date, the initiative has involved more than 5% of primary and secondary schools across the country, a total of more than 1,000 schools with 26,000 children and young people taking part in a U.Dance performance.
