Arts Council England (ACE) subsidised each arts attendance by an average of £5.19 in the financial year 2006/07, compared with £4.38 the previous year: a rise of 18.5%. According to a report of key data from Regularly Funded Organisations in the year 2006/07, Yorkshire keeps its place at the top of the table, spending £8.00 per attendance (£7.20 in 2005/06), while the South West stays at the bottom, with £3.23 (£2.29 in 2005/06). ACE identifies dance and music among the artforms requiring relatively high subsidy (£11.88 and £8.51 respectively); however, this figure is substantially lower than the previous year (£18.61 and £10.80 respectively). Attendance figures are calculated as the number of attendances rather than the number of people who attend the arts, and the national companies are excluded from the figures because of the reach they have beyond their regional bases.
