Scottish drama school goes into liquidation
The Scottish Institute of Theatre, Dance, Film and Television had been in receipt of funding from West Lothian Council, Creative Scotland and the Scottish government.
The Scottish Institute of Theatre, Dance, Film and Television has closed with immediate effect after going into liquidation.
The institute’s website has gone offline, with the homepage displaying a message stating that it has ceased trading with immediate effect and that Middlebrooks Business Recovery & Advice Limited was appointed as interim liquidator on Tuesday (6 May).
Previously known as MGA Academy of Performing Arts, the school was renamed by its new owners, Irish production house Silver Rock Studios, last year.
It had been in receipt of funding from West Lothian Council, Creative Scotland and the Scottish government.
The Scotsman reports that as recently as March 25, the school auditioned new students for next year’s intake, posting on social media about how staff had “loved” having them at its studios. It advertised another round of auditions last month.
Parents of students part way through courses at the college have raised concerns over the future of their children’s qualifications.
David Adams, whose daughter was studying musical theatre at the school, said: “There [have] been no warnings or correspondence from [the school] to advise the students on what they should do.
“Absolutely disgraceful way to treat young talented people who only want to learn and perform and make a career.”
