A round-up of “compelling evidence” for the benefits of music education has been published with the aim of providing the basis for an argument justifying the inclusion of music in the education of every child and young person. The research review, ‘The Power of Music’ by Professor Susan Hallam MBE, was commissioned by the Music Education Council (MEC) and has been published by the International Music Education Research Centre in order to document the impact that actively making music has on the intellectual, social and personal development of children and young people. Angela Ruggles, General Manager of MEC said: “This important publication is a cornerstone of MEC's advocacy work… part of its drive to persuade school leaders of the importance of a strong music presence in their schools.”
