Birmingham Repertory Theatre will celebrate its centenary in February 2013 by running a year-long project REP100, which will include the recording of an audio history of the organisation and a website which will open up the theatre’s archives for the first time. The Rep’s original building on Station Street, now known as The Old Rep, was built in 1913 as the first purpose built repertory theatre in the UK and the celebrations will take place there; the current theatre building, where the company moved in 1973, is being redeveloped as part of the City’s new Library complex. During the birthday week, all babies born at City and Heartlands hospitals will be made a gift of free theatre tickets for the first ten years of their lives.
