A bid by secondary school teacher Elen Clampitt has won Bangor Youth Group the chance to host National Theatre Wales’ (NTW) first ever ‘SuperAssembly’ on 14–15 December. The company’s ‘Assembly’ programme enables participants to experience theatre as a space for exploring significant issues. In its first year these were linked to each of NTW’s productions and were held in venues including pubs, empty shops, bus stations and ice-cream parlours, but more recently they have focused on themes voted for by the public online. In October NTW invited proposals for a SuperAssembly from companies, individuals, organisations, charities, campaigns, or anyone with an idea for a one-off assembly relevant to the their local community but with a national, or international, resonance. Three performances will be taking place in Bangor, exploring issues around the lack of opportunities for young people.
