The Royal Opera House has confirmed the return of its international cinema programme after 16 months' closure.

First launched in 2008, the 2021/22 schedule will be announced on September 7, with performances broadcast to 2,000 screens worldwide.

In-house performances are scheduled to begin on September 13.

With £3 of every £5 of income lost during the pandemic, the Royal Opera House said the programme's hiatus had been "devastating".

Head of Cinema and Distribution Edgar Kamga-Sande was thrilled about its return.

"This season has been specially designed to re-ignite interest in our art forms, bringing first-class performances to those wanting to experience the finest ballet and opera in the world."
