The chancellor Rachel Reeves is being investigated by parliament’s standards watchdog over free tickets she received for a National Theatre performance.

Reeves attended the event at the London theatre over Christmas, but the donation was not added to the MPs’ register of interests within the 28 day timeframe.

The BBC reports that her trip to the theatre was declared on the separate ministerial register.

Reeves’ register of interests show that on 27 December 2024 she received four tickets to the theatre, with an estimated value of £276. The donation was registered on 27 March 2025.

A spokesperson for Reeves said: “The chancellor’s interests are fully declared and up to date.”

The chancellor has previously defended accepting free tickets for a Sabrina Carpenter concert at the O2 arena in London.

She told the BBC at the time that she had gone with a family member.

She added: “I do now have security which means it’s not as easy as it would have been in the past to just sit in a concert.”

Speaking to ITV a few days later, she acknowledged how accepting free tickets might be perceived.

She said: “I recognise the feeling here. I have no intention of doing that again.”
