A new guide toInternships in the Arts is providing advice on how to develop mutually beneficial employment opportunities, and sets out the legal obligations for arts and cultural organisations offering internships. Published through a collaboration between Arts Council England and Creative & Cultural Skills, the guide recommends an open and fair recruitment process based on a wider internship and equal opportunities policy. It also says that internships should offer meaningful experiences that contribute to the aims of the organisation and interns that at least national minimum wage should be paid.
The UK’s first professional Shop Front Theatre is to reopen after a period of closure following a cut in core funding from Art Council England. Theatre Absolute, a company that specialises in new writing and produces new work that tours nationally and internationally, founded the Shop Front Theatre in City Arcade, Coventry in 2009. It has now secured a three-year lease with Coventry City Council. There will be a new emphasis on making the space available as an alternative space for other theatre makers to create and show their work.
Stage One, the charity that supports the developing careers of producers for the theatre industry, has launched an online fundraising theatre auction called West End Lots, through which the public get the chance to bid for theatrical experiences and memorabilia donated by members of the theatrical community. Experiences include the chance to play a walk on part in Jerusalem with Mark Rylance and Mackenzie Crook, and a pottery lesson on stage with the cast of Ghost the Musical.

Creative Scotland is launching a new virtual gallery offering the chance to purchase limited edition fine art prints by emerging Scottish artists. Presented through www.CultureLabel.com, the collection of prints presents seven Scottish artists who have made works in painting, printmaking, photography, illustration, collage and graphic design.
The Arts Council of Wales (ACW) is consulting on its draft Strategic Equality Plan. The Plan will include aims and equality objectives, but also tell stories of arts projects that show how the arts contribute to diversity and equality. ACW is inviting those who respond to the consultation to provide exampwles that will excite others to work more inclusively.
