A new consultation has been launched by the Government relating to copyright exemptions that apply to playing recorded music in public. The exemptions principally allow not-for-profit and charitable organisations, in certain circumstances, to play copyright sound recordings in public without being required to pay a licence fee for use of those sound recordings or the performances they contain. Depending on the outcomes of the consultation, these may be repealed. The deadline for responses is 31 October.
