Newport City Council demolishes historic Chartist mural

The mural had been in place for 36 years, but the Council ignored a petition to keep it, signed by more than 4k people. Two days before a planned protest it was destroyed to make way for a £100m city centre shopping development, after the Welsh government’s environment service, Cadw, refused to give it listed status.
