A new charitable foundation dedicated to education in the visual arts has been created by a long-established fine art publisher.

The Lund Humphries Foundation for Visual Arts (LHFVA) has been founded by Scolar Fine Art Ltd, the company behind publishing firm Lund Humphries.

A statement from the publisher said the foundation “will pursue its educational charitable purpose primarily through the publication of specialist books on the visual arts”.

The books will promote “understanding and appreciation of the work of artists, architects and designers”, provide “essential learning and reference resources for visual arts professionals and students”, and share publicly-funded research.

In the longer term, the intention is to support exhibitions and research programmes through grants to arts institutions and scholars in the UK.

The foundation will also initiate and manage an annual award for outstanding new research in the study of British modern and contemporary art, to be named the Peter Gregory Award after the publisher’s former chairman Peter Gregory, who died in 1959.
