A fraud investigation into the collapse of the Scottish Institute of Theatre, Dance, Film & Television has begun.

The drama school closed with immediate effect earlier this month after entering liquidation.

A statement from Police Scotland confirmed an investigation into alleged fraud launched last week and is in its early stages.

Previously known as MGA Academy of Performing Arts, the institute’s closure has led to around 20 staff members losing their jobs and scores of students having their studies halted.

Last week, Bath Spa University offered final year students from the institute an opportunity to complete their studies on one of it degrees courses.

According to reports in The Stage, other drama schools including Nardone’s Academy of Performing Arts, with campuses in Fife and Edinburgh, and the Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre Arts, have also offered to help students impacted by the closure.
