Demands for refund after Olympic Lottery raid

A campaign to get the Government to return £425m to the Big Lottery fund is gathering pace as nearly 3,000 people sign up to a Big Lottery Refund campaign. Launched by voluntary sector charity the Directory for Social Change (DSC), the campaign aims to persuade the government to repay the £465m they believe is owed to the National Lottery charity distribution arm, due to government re-direction of funds from this area to Olympic infrastructure projects.
An agreement stands that the money will be paid back to Lottery funds from the sell-off of Olympic facilities, but revised plans mean the Government has estimated the money will not start being returned until 2020. The DSC believes this is too long, as over 10,000 organisations could benefit from an immediate refund, including arts charities that apply to this fund.
