Dance and drama to be considered one qualification in school league tables

Government plans to merge ‘similar’ GCSE subjects in school league tables, such as dance and drama, and art and photography, has prompted debate over suggested overlapping of “distinct subjects”. Duncan Baldwin of the head teachers’ union ASCL has supported the principle of discounting similar qualifications, but noted the changes were focused on arts subjects rather than science and humanities.
