Plans for a new museum celebrating the poet Norman Nicholson have been approved.

Located in Nicholson’s former home in Millom, Cumbria, the venue, which will comprise a museum, café and outreach centre, as well as en-suite accommodation in an extension, could open as soon as next year.

Charlie Lambert, from Norman Nicholson CIC, which submitted the plans, told the BBC: “I think it will give Millom something to be proud of.”

Lambert said he hoped the museum would tempt visitors to the town and provide a space for small community groups to meet.

“It’s going to be a place, which I hope will have really strong links with the community,” he added.
