Conservative politicians have been criticised for supporting Cornwall's City of Culture bid four years after calling a run for European Capital of Culture a "waste of money".

The Conservative Party demanded that councillors drop the "vanity project" in 2017; now the Conservative-run council wants to showcase "the rich and diverse cultural and creative seam that runs through all of our communities".

Liberal Democrat councillors say this is "hypocrisy".

Conservative councillors counter that the Capital of Culture bid was for Truro, and slated for a year after UK left the EU: "Hence, the waste of money."
