Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery reopens
Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery is reopening following a £2.3m renovation project.
Formerly the Royal Cornwall Museum, the Truro museum has had three of its main areas redeveloped, including the Heart of Cornwall Gallery which showcases Cornish identity, history and culture and the Nature Gallery highlighting the area’s wildlife and landscapes.
The project has also seen the development of a new space dedicated for children.
“There are so many different stories to explore through the museum’s collections and we’ve worked hard with our communities to re-imagine and re-display some amazing and surprising objects, along with providing fun and interactive activities,” said co-director Bryony Robins.
“Our ambitions for the museum are really bold and we see ourselves as playing an important role for our local communities, as well as a place for visitors from further afield to get to know Cornwall more deeply.”
Funding for the project came from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme via the UK government’s shared prosperity fund. Portfolio holder for economy at Cornwall Council, Louis Gardner, said the funding is part of a wider £17.2m package for the area’s arts and culture.
The museum is open seven days a week, with entry free for under 18s.
