Battersea’s Theatre 503 is set to build a new centre for early career playwrights in Nine Elms, Wandsworth.

The project has been awarded £250,000 from Galliard Homes as part of Wandsworth Council’s ‘Cultural Anchor’ programme, designed to attract cultural organisations to the borough.

The centre, which is expected to include a rehearsal suite, writing rooms and event space, will open its doors by 2023.

Theatre 503 Executive Directors Lisa Spirling and Andrew Shepherd referred to the plans as a “game changing moment”.

“It will have a seismic impact on the new writing ecology for generations to come. Diversity begins with who is telling the stories.”
