An Upper Tribunal ruling could result in lower business rates for hundreds of museums across England and Wales. York Museums Trust has won an appeal for its business rates to be based on its net income and expenditure, rather than the cost of rebuilding, and its shops to be considered within its remit. It means annual savings of £10k for the trust and a backdated rebate of £100k.
