Arts Council of Wales Chief Executive Nick Capaldi said the theatre must respond to ongoing debates about the prevalence of Welsh artists in its work by scrutinising its programming choices and looking at how it is marketing shows and developing audiences. This follows news earlier this week that 200 artists had backed accusations made by scores of Welsh playwrights that the organisation is undermining Welsh artists.

National Theatre Wales Artistic Director Kully Thiarai has also spoken publicly about the debate, saying some of the issues raised relate to wider challenges facing theatre across the country.
