ACE grants Southbank Centre £17m for urgent repairs

The project to repair and conserve the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Hayward Gallery was meant to be part of a larger £120m revamp, which is on hold after Mayor Boris Johnson announced he would only support it if controversial plans to relocate the skate park were dropped. The ACE grant amounts to 70% of the £24m needed, and the centre plans to raise the remainder from "trusts, philanthropists and audiences".
