Orkney's Pier Arts Centre (pictured) has won the UKs largest architecture prize, the £25,000 Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Andrew Doolan Award, for a design by Reiach and Hall Architects.

The £4.5m centre, based on a pier in Stromness, re-opened earlier this year following a major refurbishment and the construction of a new library/archive and a gallery to house the internationally important Margaret Gardiner Collection, which comprises key works by 20th century artists including Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. Previous winners of the prize include Edinburghs Dance Base in 2002 and the Scottish Parliament in 2005.
