A pilot learning scheme for trustees and committee members is aiming to establish trusteeship as a route for personal and professional development and to give board members the opportunity to gain skills, confidence and recognition for their work.
Run by the Governance Hub and the Workforce Hub, the pilot will be completed in 2008, and thereafter learning providers will be able to deliver accredited programmes to trustees across England. The scheme was developed in response to research revealing that two-thirds of trustees would like to participate in accredited learning and only 6% felt that trustees have all of the skills needed to be on a board.
