More than 37,000 people enjoyed a Shakespeare production for the first time last year as part of The Royal Shakespeare Companys (RSC) Complete Works Festival. The audience development findings are revealed in the RSCs annual report for the period 2006/07, a report that claims both financial and artistic gains for the company, with over 527,000 tickets sold and total operating income at £34.7m, £1.6m better than expected.

The report also notes the opening of the brand new Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, and claims that the companys London season at the Novello Theatre was one of its most successful ever, playing to 94% capacity.
