Designers and makers with new ideas for instruments for disabled musicians are being encouraged to join a ‘hackathon’ being hosted by Drake music on 21 April as part of its research and development programme. Participants will be able to work toward two prizes for innovation, as they attempt to diversify the number of instruments that are accessible to disabled people. They will look for ideas across all areas, from adaptations of acoustic instruments to new Assistive Music Technology, as well as things not yet imagined. The event is supported by Music Hackspace and Furtherfield and is the first of a series of initiatives to be launched at Drake Music and Furtherfield’s WeShare venue.
