The city of York will be under the spotlight at the end of the month as the sixth Illuminating York festival hosts sound and light shows from 27 to 30 October. The nightly art bonanza faces a budget squeeze and will be held for four instead of 10 days this year, involving only nine artists compared to the 17 commissioned in 2009. They will transform some of York’s oldest and most iconic buildings into canvasses for digital works. The focus of the festival will be York Minster and its famous Rose window. Organisers still expect 30,000 visitors to pass through the city, and for the local economy to be boosted by £2m.
