Spanish artists, Xarxa Teatre

An Open Weekend marking the launch of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad will be taking place from 26 to 28 September, the official start of a four-year celebration leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The weekend will open up opportunities for people across the UK to get involved in creative activities, and encourage cultural groups and organisations to work together to do something unusual.

Hundreds of events and activities are planned for the Open Weekend. A free outdoor theatrical event involving drama, sound and pyrotechnics by Spanish artists, Xarxa Teatre (pictured), will take place at Bowleaze Coveway in Weymouth. Presented by Inside Out, an initiative of the Dorset Theatre Promoters’ Consortium, and project-managed by Activate, Dorset’s theatre and dance development agency, the event is supported by an educational programme involving young people from the area. Arts organisations interested in running an event as part of the Open Weekend can email {openweekend@london2012.com for details}.
