Jerwood Dance House Opens in Ipswich
The £8.9m Jerwood Dance House, a major new international centre for dance developed by DanceEast, has officially opened. It is the first cultural development to be opened in Ipswich in over a decade and provides 2,500 square metres of dance facilities at the heart of a £70m renewal programme in Ipswich. The centre was opened this month with a huge parade through the streets, which featured the people of Ipswich performing a dance called ‘Let Yourself Go’, specially choreographed by New Art Club to James Brown’s ‘Get Up Offa That Thing’. The centre offered free taster workshops over its opening weekend including Egyptian belly dancing, ballet, hip hop, and musical theatre, to encourage Ipswich residents to get involved in dance.
