In a letter to Small Business and Consumer Minister Kelly Tolhurst, the industry body’s CEO Michael Dugher urges that the crowdfunding website PledgeMusic be referred to the Competition and Markets Authority after it failed to find a buyer. Last week, the platform’s founder Benji Rodgers confirmed in a blog that the company was headed for administration.

Following an “administrative error” from studio provider ACAVA which meant it did not pay rent to the building’s landlords, twenty-five artists are now unable to access their studios in Perivale in West London. The artists say they cannot carry on with their usual work until the issue is resolved.

An £8m scheme has been put forward to convert a large derelict warehouse into a multi-purpose arts centre, including artists’ studios and workshops, an arts library, gallery spaces and a multifunctional rehearsal space with the potential to seat 250.

The town’s five-year plan for culture, The Fire Within, follows consultation with experts and local cultural organisations. Wigan Council's Chief Executive Alison McKenzie-Folan said the document had been written “for the people, by the people”. The authority has previously announced its intention to bid for up to £2m from Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places programme.

Following the opening of the Bridge Theatre in 2017, the pair, who previously worked together leading the National Theatre, are planning a new 600-seat venue in King’s Cross. The theatre, designed by Haworth Tompkins Architects and Tait, is expected to open in 2021.

Without admitting liability, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland has settled a case brought by Chief Executive Roisin McDonough, who alleged she had experienced age discrimination and victimisation. McDonough claimed that, when she asked to reduce her working hours from five to four days a week, no decision was taken and she was instead asked about her retirement plans.

At the request of the artist, the gallery will place sheets over the artwork, which depicts one of the five pillars of Islam in Arabic script, juxtaposed with images of nude women in the style of the US flag. Calls from some visitors for the paintings to be removed were rejected.
