Creative Scotland will invest £240,000 in two new projects to encourage and support literature, theatre and dance touring to remote areas of Scotland as part of the Rural Innovation Fund. £200,000 will go to the Highlands and Islands Theatre Network in partnership with Promoters Arts Network, North East Arts Touring and HI~Arts, the arts and cultural development agency for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. The investment will make up a two-year Northern Scotland Rural Touring Fund for theatre and dance companies in Scotland. A minimum of eight theatre or dance tours (involving a minimum of two dance companies) will be supported during the two-year period. The remaining £40,000 is for the Island Writers Network, developed through HI~Arts. The funding will be used to develop a sustainable touring network for literature across the islands and beyond, building on and formalising the existing work. It has committed to at least 30 new literature events taking place across Scotland’s islands during the two-year funding period.
